About Paws to Play Vet Rehabilitation
Dr Susan Hill
BVSc – Bachelor of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, South Africa
CCRT – Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, Canine Rehab Institute, USA
Susan qualified as a veterinarian in South Africa and has worked in general small animal practice in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. After qualifying as a CCRT in 2017, she took the opportunity to further her training and immerse herself fully in the world of rehabilitation at an exclusive canine and feline rehabilitation practice in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she worked full time. There was a large and varied case load of orthopaedic, muscular, neurological and sporting dog cases during her time there, referred from both specialist practice and general practices. The patients and clients at the practice were a privilege for her to have worked with and to have learned from, as they had so much dedication and enthusiasm. She started Paws to Play Vet Rehabilitation in February 2019 after moving to Perth.
She has assessed and managed numerous post-operative rehabilitation patients – both orthopaedic and spinal cases as well as many conservatively managed conditions. Rehabilitation often requires the use of a range of modalities, manual therapies, therapeutic exercises and exercise modification in combination to be effective and Susan has utilised all of these. She has been involved in fitting animals for wheelchairs, measuring and fitting custom-made braces for carpal and tarsal joints, as well as custom braces for neurological and congenital abnormalities in the distal limbs and paws of dogs (and a feline patient too). In her spare time she loves to be out and about exploring the great outdoors with her husband and 2 dogs or reading a good book.
